Active is supported by the EU's Health programme. Award winning animators and international experts have teamed up for this project: Business Solution Europa (project coordinator), Griffilms, Istituto G. Gaslini - Centre for the Prevention and Treatment of Childhood Obesity, Università di Napoli Federico II - Department of Food Science (UNINA).
The ACTIVE team worked with children across several European countries to evaluate the content of the cartoon animation My Friend Boo. The three episodes of the strand teach children the value of a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise and balanced eating. The final project was launched in Brussels on November 17th 2010 and is now available to broadcasters for free.
The animated series was translated in several languages and is accompanied by a teaching pack that provides teachers and educators with support to teach kids how to be active and have fun at the same time!
Thanks to its coordination skills, Explora created a network of European Children’s Museums and coordinated their work. 100 children (600 in total) per country were involved by each Museum:
- Technopolis in Mechelen, Belgium
- Artland in Sofia, Bulgaria
- Imaginosity in Dublin, in Ireland
- Parkminiatur in Lodz, in Poland
- Ceip La Làntia, in Spain
Explora and the 4 Museums coordinated the work of 5 primary schools that took part in focus groups, during which they collected input, opinions, thoughts and knowledge on the issue ‘A Healthy Life’. Further inquiries were carried out through the collection of feedbacks of parents and other children visiting the Museums. On special weekends the screening of the series has been arranged for visitors.
