Through this document:
- the Co-operative guarantees high standard quality services;
- visitors are informed about activities and services provided;
- consumers are provided with a clear and direct tool to observe and evaluate staff efficiency.
The following ‘Regulations and Standards’ will be revised and adjusted annually.

Policy for quality and main principles
Children’s Museum Social Co-operative is a Non-profitable organization and is ISO certified according to the EN ISO 9001:2008. Regulations and standards rest on our mission.
These ‘Regulations and Standards’ are based on the following keywords:
- Equality: services will be provided according to a range of standard regulations equal for all, applied with no kind of preferences or discriminations;
- Fairness: staff attitude toward visitors is fair and impartial;
- Participation: the Co-operative will collect and review suggestions and complaints, regarding services and quality. On the one hand visitors will be part of every decision taken, on the other staff will try to fulfil any kind of request;
- Effectiveness and efficiency: the Co-operative provides its services efficiently using all the resources available.
Quality standards
The Museum outlines its quality standards. In order to monitor the quality of the services provided constantly, the following ‘Regulations and Standards’ show the reference standards and indicators that the Museum will translate into actions for improvement.

CULTURAL OFFER
Visitors:
- Visits from Monday to Sunday, 4 daily visits (three visits in August)
- Week-end workshops, ludo-educational handicraft ateliers, held during the visit (booking required, activity included in the admission ticket);
- I Libri Parlanti (Speaking Books), free readings at the book-shop;
- Seminars, Conferences, Books or Events presentations, admission free;
- Birthday and Night parties;
- Summer / Winter / Spring Camps during school holidays;
- Officina in..., handicraft workshop in the new bulding "Officina" in Via Flaminia 80 (booking required).
Schools:
- Educational tour with workshops on specific topics, for children aged 6 to 13;
- Tours and recreation for Nurseries and playgroups;
- I Lunedì degli Insegnanti (Teachers’ Mondays), training course for teachers recognized by Miur - Ufficio Scolastico Regionale del Lazio.
Companies and Institutions:
- Private events hosted by Explora in the pavillion;
- Fund raising;
- Outdoor educational activities and workshops;
- Europrojecting.
MAIN SERVICES
Educational offer
Visitors:
- We only offer self-guided tours of the permanent exhibitions. Guided tours only for temporary exhibitions, according to the calendar;
- our English and Italian speaking staff welcome the visitors to the pavilion. They are available in the main areas of the museum for help and suggestions;
Schools:
- Educational tours, booking required.
Ticket shop and admission
- Our staff welcomes visitors, provide information, both on the telephone and in person, takes care of bookings (via telephone and e-mail), hand out information leaflets;
- Signs with: general information, opening hours, fees, notices to visitors, maintenance notices;
- Waiting rooms, hall with bar and outdoor covered area;
- Open for visitors from Tuesday to Sunday from 9.30 am to 7.30 pm (in August from 11.00 am to 7.00 pm).
Shop and Book-shop
Educational games and books on sale. Open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9.30 am to 7.30 pm (in August from 11.00 am to 7.00 pm).
Parking
For visitors only, located in Via Flaminia 86 (fee: 1 € per visit). Non-visitors are usually not admitted in the area. For non-visitors higher rates will be applied.

Closed every Monday, January 1st, August 15th, December 25th; closing time at 4.45 pm December 24th and 31st. Notices of extraordinary maintenance (to be held in August or September) and of possible closing days will be published on the web site (www.mdbr.it). Messages may also be left on the answering machine.
Admission
- Free admission to the outdoor area and to the book-shop;
- Purchase your ticket before your visit. Children are admitted only with an adult and adults are admitted only with children;
- Admission to the Officina by children with ticket only;
- Adults are responsible for their children’s behaviour and liable for their potential damages to the exhibitions;
- Rules and Regulations, ticket fares, concession, free admissions, are all displayed at the ticket shop, in the pavilion hall. They are also published on the web site.
Directions and Accessibility
Explora is located in via Flaminia 82, Rome, a few minutes walk from Piazza del Popolo. Buses: 490, 495, 628, 92, 88, 6, M Line from 5 pm, 204 (only Sunday and Bank Holidays); Tram Line: 2, 19; Metro A (Flaminio stop); Roma-Viterbo railway line.
Thanks to an architectural barrier-free design, the building is entirely accessible to wheelchair users. The Museum is provided with: toilets specially designed for disabled people, stair lifts and wheelchair ramps.
Pavillion and exhibits
The Pavilion is divided into:
- Ground floor, dedicated to permanent exhibitions;
- First floor, dedicated to temporary exhibitions, area for babies and toddlers, workshops and ateliers (according to the calendar)
- "Officina" is in Via Flaminia 80. The place observes HACCP law.
When exhibits or exhibitions are temporally closed for general maintenance, notice will be given to visitors upon their arrival and ticket purchase. Signs will also be displayed in the ticket office.
Signs and Communication
- Posters of events and ongoing activities are displayed in the hall, on the outdoor board and in the pavilion;
- In the hall and in the pavilion visitors can find: Italian/English flyers (with opening hours, admission fees, calendar, museum maps, exhibitions and workshops), submission forms, suggestion and complaint forms, list of partners, information on sensitive data protection policy;
- General information is constantly updated on www.mdbr.it;
- The Museum general regulations are displayed in the hall and on the main door to the pavilion;
- Birthday and night parties, camps, fidelity card, are subject to specific regulations available for visitors;
- Signs are in Italian and English. They provide useful information on exhibits, recommendations on the admission policy to the pavilion and to the outdoor area, directions to the toilette, to the parking, to the restaurant, bookshop and shop.
Web site
www.mdbr.it provides general information, booking online and submission to the newsletter.
Booking
- Booking is advisable for visitors during working days and it is required on Saturday and Bank Holidays. The booking expires ten minutes prior to the time of the chosen visit. Booking is cancelled when the visit-shift begins, if necessary a waiting list will be created.
- Booking is always required for schools, groups, birthday parties and camps.
Cloakroom and Lost & Found
- The Pavilion cloakroom is unattended;
- Lost objects are kept for 30 days. Visitors are invited to provide a description of lost objects along with their contact details. Once the owner had been identified, a form of ID will be required in order to return the lost objects.
Filming and photo sessions
For promotion reasons, the in-house press office is in charge of arranging photo filming sessions of events and activities hosted by Explora.
The presence of TV crews or photographers will be communicated to visitors. Notices will be displayed in the ticket office and in the pavilion and warnings will be also included in the regulations. This will allow users to be completely aware of what will take place during their visit.
If necessary, tutors or parents of children from school groups or camps will be required to sign a disclaimer form.
Filming is allowed for private use only.
Cafè and Restaurant
- Both café and bar are open during the Museum opening hours;
- The restaurant is run by a third party, it is open during the Museum opening hours. Evening opening hours are autonomously scheduled .
- Café and bar staff knows and follows HACCP regulations
- Upon specific request, the Childen’s Museum will take care of the catering service for special events (openings, premises rentals, etc)
Cleaning
Daily cleaning services and exhibit maintenance are guaranteed within the Museum premises.
Suggestions/ Complaints
Users are invited to fill in the forms in order to review the services described in this ‘Regulations and Standards’. Forms are available to visitors for suggestions and comments. Correctly filled forms can be addressed to:
