LA COOPERATIVA

A children’s museum in Rome

Museo dei Bambini Società Cooperativa Sociale Onlus (Social Co-operative) runs Explora. It has been founded in 1998 and is included in the “Camera di Commercio” business register and it’s a member of “Albo delle Cooperative Sociali”, Confederazione Cooperative Italiane, Federsolidarietà, Confcooperative – Unione Provinciale di Roma.

Explora is a non-profit Cooperative, with a female majority. Its main mission is to set up and run this institution dedicated to children, schools and families.

Explora is a private museum with no public fundings: the museum ticket is the main important income for the cooperative. Explora supports itself mainly thanks to tickets, corporate sponsorships, European and national calls, services, shop and bookshop

It is a member of Ecsite, the European network of science museums and science centers, of Hands On! International, an international network that brings together museum entities from all over the world aimed at children; it is a museum that is part of the Regional Museum Organization (O.M.R.) of the Lazio Region and is an Associate of the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS).

STAFF

MANAGEMENT

Patrizia Tomasich, ptomasich@mdbr.it

Coordinates the development and activities of the Museum, works on fundraising and projects with companies, oversees the ticketing, communication, and quality sectors. Together with the administration, she is responsible for producing the annual financial statement.

EXHIBIT AND SETUP DESIGN

oversees the conception, design, and creation of the exhibits and play routes, working on prototypes that are then tested, tried, and presented to the public and regularly monitored. supervises and manages both regular and special maintenance of the facility’s systems and manages the maintenance warehouse.

Manages and plans the agreements, internships, and deals with universities, the service charter, and the quality tests offered to the public, preparing the collection and data processing

NATIONAL AND EUROPEAN PROJECT MANAGER

researches and monitors local, national, and European calls for proposals, establishes Italian, European, and international networks and partnerships with museums, universities, training centers, and cultural operators. She collaborates with universities on research and development projects related to the world of childhood, works on the design and writing of new projects, and oversees their coordination and implementation.

HEAD OF DIGITAL / SCIENTIFIC DIRECTOR

Manages the architecture of the website www.mdbr.it, updates the information and creates new content, in accordance with the museum’s programming and in synergy with other communication channels. Creates and develops new workshops for schools and families, training courses, activities, and events related to the use of new technologies, digital programs, and media.

Creates, develops, and produces the prototypes of all the workshops offered to the public (families, schools, and businesses). Takes care of the educational content of the play paths, exhibits, readings, camps, and birthday parties. Manages the warehouse of materials for the workshops; is responsible for regular training of internal animators and collaborators and for teachers when it is not provided by external trainers; coordinates, manages, and monitors the work of animators during visits and public activities.

Provides information, makes phone reservations, sells and checks the number of admissions to the Museum, manages reservations for birthday parties, camps, friend cards, events, and activities. It is supported by all the members/partners to assist in the initial reception service, especially on weekends and holidays.

BOOKSHOP

Manages purchases and supplies for the entire facility, both online and directly with suppliers, monitors and maintains the office and shop inventory

FINANCE AND HR

handles all the accounting and produces the financial statements, collaborating with external professionals. oVersees the attendance of all staff and manages payrolls, contracts, and relations with employees and worker members, with the assistance of external professionals.

The staff is responsible for regular and special cleaning of the entire facility, including exhibits and green maintenance, ensuring coverage with a rotation over seven days a week
